Hey Rappers,
1W compared Bear and Chook decided that even though they are different in colour, size and strength they they were the same because they were both brave and friendly. They were not brave at the same time but, when one of them was hurt or scared, they helped each other feel better.
They are great friends.

Hi again from 2X,
We thought of quite a few differences between Bear and Chook. We looked at their appearances and found that Bear is big, while Chook is small; Bear loves traveling, while Chook loves being at home; Bear is curious and adventurous, while Chook is conservative and safe!
They are similar because the care a lot about each other. We think that maybe deep down Chook secretly loves adventure, just like Bear. They also love hanging out together and spending their time doing different activities.
Bear and Chook is similar to other picture books such as The Angry Lady Beetle because they go all the way through an adventure, when something goes wrong. By the end they are all happy again!
The names really started rolling when asked for the next titles…!

Hello,
1S had a chat about where Bear and Chook could go on their next adventure. They concluded that because, at the end of ‘Bear and Chook’, Bear wanted to be an astronaut that they should go into space. Bear and Chook would need a rocket with a window so that they could see where they were going. Out of the window they would see stars and planets.
Please click on the image to see a bigger version.
A few students in 1S thought that Bear and Chook could also visit the north pole and the desert.

One student wanted Bear and Chook to come to their house. This sounds like fun!

G’day Fellow Rappers,
1M and 1T thought about the differences between Bear and Chook. We discovered that Bear is a big, bright, white, polar bear who is adventurous and carefree. Chook is a small, light, dull brown rooster who is careful, timid and shy. Polar bears are rare and roosters are common.
We also discussed the similarities between Bear and Chook. They both care for each other, enjoy playing together and are loving.
We brainstormed books that were similar to Bear and Chook. We voted for our favourite books about bears, chooks, friends and beaches. Our favourites were ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ‘Chicken Little’, ‘Gordon’s Got a Snookie’ and ‘Mr McGee Goes to Sea’.
After a lot of discussion, we decided on many places that Bear and Chook could go to next. They included Hawaii, Parliament House and the museum.
Bye Rappers. Hear from you soon.

Hi everyone,
We thought Bear and Chook were different because they physically look different. We also thought they were different because they wanted to be different things when they grow up. They had different attitudes because Chook is always worried about Bear and danger, while Bear is not a worrier.
For Bear and Chook’s next adventure we thought about them going to the bush, the countryside, the doctor or the police. We all liked the idea of Bear and Chook going by train to the Blue Mountains. (They would catch the train that went over the bridge).

Hi again,
KA and KR thought Bear and Chook were different because:
Bear is big and Chook isn’t
Bear can see the sea and Chook can’t from the top of the mud castle
Chook lays eggs and Bear doesn’t
They are different colours
Bear is the leader and Chook follows
Bear is stronger because he carried Chook
Bear has a big voice and Chook has a small voice
Chook looks out for danger and Bear doesn’t until it is there
Bear is brave and Chook is a little scared.
They are similar because they do everything together, they build together and explore together. They keep each other safe and look after each other.
Ideas for another adventure are:
* Catching the train to Parramatta, or the zoo, or the acquarium, or the city. (The train that went over the bridge).
* Going to an island in the boat that they sailed on the pond.

Hello Readers!
We think Bear and Chook are different because: one is a bear and one is a chook; they are different sizes; they are different colours; Bear nearly gets Chook hurt but Chook doesn’t do that to Bear; and Bear wants to do all of these dangerous things, but Chook doesn’t.
We think Bear and Chook are similar because: they are both adventurers; they are both good friends; they are nice to each other; they have the same life together; and they help each other.
Some book in the Library that are similar to Bear and Chook are:
Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge – they are good friends who help each other
Grandpa and Thomas – they do things together and they are at the beach as well
Willy and Hugh – they do things together and are good friends.
These are our ideas for new book titles for Bear and Chook:
* Bear and Chook go camping
* Bear and Chook go to school
* Bear and Chook go hunting.

Jack suggested that in America Bear and Chook could visit Disneyland.
Maddison suggested ‘Bear and Chook in the Haunted House’. Chook might be scared.
Cameron suggested that ‘Bear and Chook go to the Desert’ would be a good title for a book where Bear and Chook get very hot. We feel very hot today.

Hello Everyone,
We are so enjoying the Bear & Chook books but don’t have enough library time to explore them as much as we would like.
This week, Stage 1 looked at how different Bear & Chook are.
We found that Bear is:
white, large, has fur and paws, adventurous, rushes at new experiences and is less afraid. He also likes to get up early.
We found that Chook is:
brown, small, has feathers and claws, more cautious and careful, prefers a quieter life and is scared of lots of things. Chook also likes to not get up so early.
Must go now. Keep rapping!

Hi busy book rappers,
What a terrific job you did responding to Rap Point 3!
We were all able to think of the many ways in which Bear and Chook are different – both in their appearance, feelings and actions. I especially enjoyed reading your thoughts about the similarities between Bear and Chook; the very, very special friendship that they share and how they always care, support and encourage one another.
I was also very impressed with the many other books about bears, chooks, friendship and the sea that you have in your libraries! You must all be very keen readers and Library borrowers to be aware of so many titles!
I’m sure both Lisa and Emma were thrilled with your creative suggestions for future Bear and Chook titles! As I read your long lists of ideas, I could picture our favourite characters having fun on their new adventures! I especially liked the ideas for Bear and Chook to visit the Library!
Like you, I’m hoping that Lisa and Emma decide to write a third Bear and Chook title, sometime in the future!
Now, sadly, we come to our last official week of the book rap. For our Rap Wrap Up, you need to think about:
* What have you enjoyed about participating in this book rap?
* What new skills have you developed?
* What was the highlight of the book rap for you?
To post your response on our rap blog, please visit the Rap Wrap Up page, scroll down, then upload your message as a Comment.
Don’t forget to keep checking the Gallery and Author pages for updates from classes, and from Lisa and Emma. It’s great to view the beautiful artwork, photographs and slideshows made by students – and to read Emma & Lisa’s interesting comments.
I look forward to reading your Rap Wrap Up messages over this next week!

In our class we made a Venn diagram about Bear and Chook. We thought that Bear was brave, adventurous, huge in size and was careless. I thought Chook was clever, tiny in size, careful in his actions and much smaller than Bear.
We dressed up Bear and Chook up in costumes. One of the dress ups was Bear in his cozzies.

Hi Rappers,
1W looked at the end of the book Bear and Chook and Bear and Chook by the Sea and talked about what Bear wanted to do each time. We noticed that the second last pages started the same.
‘That night, after supper, Bear and Chook lay by the pond and watched the moon’ the picture showed a different moon and the towel was hanging in the tree. Bear thought he could ride the surfboard and he also wanted to touch the moon.
We thought that their next adventure would either be riding a surfboard or being an astronaut. Some of us thought that it would be nice if Bear and Chook could visit their classroom.
Whatever the adventure 1W can’t wait to read about it!

Hi Fellow Rappers,
We have had so much fun this week thinking about how Bear and Chook are different and similar.
We think they are such good friends because they both like to talk a lot, play together and like to hug each other.
They are still great friends even though they are different in some ways. Bear is adventurous but Chook likes to be careful. Bear likes to hunt and Chook doesn’t like it much. Bear is big and Chook is small. Bear has fur and Chook has feathers.

Hello Fellow Rappers,
Here are our thoughts on Rap Point 3:
3A. How Bear and Chook Are Different:
they are different animals
Bear is bigger than Chook
Bear likes to go adventuring but Chook doesn’t
Bear is not shy but Chook is
They are different colours
Bear has fur and arms and Chook has feathers and wings
Bear has a mouth and Chook has a beak
One is fat and one is skinny
Chook always nearly gets hurt but Bear doesn’t
Chook is faster than Bear because he always manages to get out of the way
Bear seems braver than Chook in the first story
Chook seems a bit smarter because Bear seems to rush into things before he thinks
Bear doesn’t think about what might happen but Chook does
Chook cares if it is dangerous but Bear doesn’t
Chook is just happy to be who he is but Bear is always looking for something else.
3B. How Bear and Chook are the same:
they like doing things with each other
they rely on each other
they are both caring characters
they are both animals
they are agreeable because they both agree to do things with each other
they are both helpful.
3C. Other books that remind us of the Bear and Chook stories:
Little Pirate in a Pickle - because the little pirate gets into mischief
The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes – because the two squirrels go on an adventure
Blinky Bill – because he and his friends go on adventures
3D. Our suggestions for the next Bear and Chook adventures
Bear and Chook Play Baseball
Bear and Chook Go To Space
Bear and Chook Play Snakes and Ladders

Hi!
It’s the Ochre Chooks again.
We have looked for other books by Lisa Shanahan. We found “Daddy’s having a horse!” and “My Mum Tarzan”. We think that “Daddy’s having a horse” was fantastic. We thought “My Mum Tarzan” was funny and crazy. (Have you tried one of the adventures like the mum in that story?)
If Bear and Chook have another adventure, we would like to go along with them. We think they could have friends like an echidna, a wombat or US, the Ochre Chooks!
Goodbye and have fun reading our post.
